another timing quandry 95 c280 104 motor
Hi guys, after setting cam timing several times by the book and turning engine by hand and rechecking it at tdc, with cams are lined up w/ 4mm holes and pins crank says 5 degrees past tdc...got any ideas? I even tried to set timing with crank 5 degrees ahead but chain won't fit gears then...stretched chain? or what...history is exhaust cam broke in accident and bent valves...milage 52k...thanks now!

Hmmm... ok... Mine is about 7.5degrees on the old chain...but this is turning into a major ordeal. It was in the shop for 13 months, I towed it home and trying to put it back together. Found a broken bolt on right-side (looking at front of engine) chain guide. Now, have to pull radiator off to drill and ez-out/tap bolt hole.
Once I get that back together, need to figure out a harness issue. The guy I bought it from claimed to have replaced engine harness, looks like its been 'spliced' in, but the one that goes to the right (or left side of car) fender well is a mess... its only money, right?
