63 motor swap into R171 SLK
Hey guys,
The title says what the current plan is, but I know there are some major technical challenges that may ensue given the complex electrical nature of modern benz motors and gadgets. I have a motor, but don't have the chassis...yet...
What I'm wondering is what are the specific issues that I'm going to run up against and what I'll need (other than the motor). I'd imagine that I need an ECU, but I don't know how that would tie in with the other electronics (traction control, instruments, eis, etc).
What specifically in the drivetrain would need to get upgraded also? Would the SLK 7-speed be able to be handle the power? What about the 5-speed auto? Or perhaps the 6-speed manual?
Anyone have any experience with doing motor swaps?
Any shops other than Brabus have any major experience doing this?
