Code Readers
Does anyone have any input on code readers? My immediate need is to figure out a "visit workshop" message which I think relates to the airmatic suspension in a 2004 E500 wagon. I also have a 2004 GMC Sierra and I tend to end up working on Audis occasionally, so it would be helpful if they'll do those too. I've read around the site and am wondering what your opinion is on the best readers to buy. I understand stay away from Autotap, I'm not really looking to buy a $50 reader, I have a couple of those. I have been looking at enginuity and Alex Pepper's http://www.obd-2.com/#new which I am attracted to because of price. I'd like to hear any input you may have. I'm hoping the only answer isn't the Star system the dealer uses. Thanks Dave

A generic code reader will not display airmatic faults. It will only (for the most part) give you generic engine DTC's, or any control unit that will cause emissions to peak above 1.5 times the federally mandated emissions standard. (ie: some trans fault codes, etc)

Is there any reason one wouldn't buy the Auto Ingenuity product? It is about 500 with the Mercedes module. Seems to cover everything.
