OK, took my 01 S600 w/ 60K miles on it to dealership to figure out why all my switches on the dash, esp, abc, locks, distronic etc do not work. they put it on the computer and it said the UCP was bad. then they proceeded to tell me it is under the dome light. is any of this true? is there a module in the dome light assembly that controls the switches? i know the dome light is expensive $850. does any of this make sense?

I checked epc net and there is a control unit under the dome light called a Rain and Light sensor and it's price (2008 price list) is around $50. I could be wrong but I would expect that to be an ambient light level sensor given it's location. I don't know why it would affect your switches.

UCP is upper control panel, it is the switch group in the woodgrain. The OCP -overhead control panel is where your dome light is and yes there is a control unit there, but is not related to your problem.
