Key Fob

I have a '02 CL500 and was wondering if the battery goes in my key and I have to use the mechanical key part to open the car door, will the key fob still start the car? I know I could take the battery out and try to start it but I don't want to screw something up in the computer.

Yes the key will start your car. The battery is for the transmission of the signal that opens the car automatically. Most MB's come with an emergency key which has no battery and is designed to be kept in your wallet/purse in case you lose your keys.
