Temperature gauge reading for CLK-500
Is it normal for the temperature gauge to be reading between 85 to 90 degrees after riding for 5 minutes in cool weather? I can't imagine what it will read during the heat of the summer in 90 degree weather.

Ok my brother's 98 C280 has always hover'ed around 80(he's had it about a year), my 99 SLK230 get's as high as 95(sitting in traffic or hunting for a parking space downtown, I got it in Dec. 02 so I haven't driven it in the summer). You might want to to have the fan(or fan clutch, don't which you have).

My guess would the thermostate, if you had "normal" readings in the past. The readings as to my experience are slightly above 80 Celsius. Under normal driving condition in cool whether "normal" stop and go traffic the dial should not or only slightly move. The controlling is done by the thermostate and if temps rise by the fan.
Replace th thermostate which is a cheap part and in any case the first try before you invest in a fluid clutch for the fan.
