Catalytic convertor options

My cat sounds like rocks rattling. I have a E320 2002--60K miles. I am out of warranty (8yrs./80kmiles) by 2 months. What options do I have now. They want $2600 to replace one. Is it worth it? Will it damage the engine to keep driving it?

you can replace both with aftermarket units for a fraction of what you have been quoted.

The factory units are designed to last 8 yrs/80K miles.

The aftermarket units have zero warranty and their quality usually reflects that.
