Hi everybody!
I'm new to this forum, and looking for info. and advice from you guys. I recently bought a 1976 280 sedan - high mileage, of course - in good running and overall condition (after some minor tweaking). But, this car gets awful gas mileage! I expect that a car this old, this heavy, isn't expected to get as good as modern cars, but it seem to suck gas with in-town stop and go driving. My odomter only works when it wants to, so it's impossible to get an accurate assessment. Short of getting the odometer fixed, is there anything I can do to improve MPH?? Also, do I need to run premium fuel (91 octane)in this - it's an in-line 6. Any advice would be helpful.

i can't help you but uh...
cool! you have a 280? i do too. its a '72 280SE with the 4.5L V8. uses maaad gas but i don't have to spend too much to fill it up. it's also idling a bit rough (been told its misfiring) but besides that its tip top. my odometer doesn't work either, nor the trip meter. ah well. i'm starting to really like my car... it's gangsta
