My co-worker 's SL600 (R129) ASR light keep lighting up and the car is now on limp mode and barely can drive it. Dealer wants $12,000 to fix!!! anybody know what's wrong? $12k to repair is ridiculous.

what was the estimate for? If it needs a hydraulic unit or a combination of things it may be that much. Possibly a problem with the hydraulic suspension. let us know what exactly the dealer wants to replace.

2003 c230k magma, c5, c7, 6 spd.

$12K to repair a V12 car is not ridiculous at all. That's why used ones are cheap.

i believe that many of the repairs on the 12 cylinder and 8 cylinder of the same year and model are pretty much the same, except for things like extra spark plugs, a different coil and post 2003 turbo chargers. correct me if i'm wrong. oh, and maybe the brakes are upgraded.

if the car is old enough, pre 2005, I have Carsoft available, and I live in socal also, so I would be willing to help you out with the codes, 2 years ago my C320 also went into limp home mode, but I replaced the transmission our selfs, saves a whole lot of $$$.

Yeah its the Electronic Throttle Acutator. very common problem on the 600 you will need two of them/

But it can be fixed for under $1000. Some ETA can be rewired. The problem is they used biodegradable wiring insulation and its causing problems

google search for ETA mercedes
