Rumbling Noise
The vehicle in question is a 2004 E500 4matic. The car has 55,000 miles on it. I have recently noticed a rumbling noise when at low speeds at turning the wheel while attempting to make a tight turn with the wheel turned about 60% or more. I have looked to see if anything is rubbing in the wheel wells and I have not found anything. Any ideas as to what could be causing this would be much help. Thanks!

Was transfer case oil ever changed? Fluid change "may" resolve problem if this fails, TC needs replacement to current part 2202800700. PM email address and I will forward associated DTB.

Re:
I am not sure if the transfer case oil was changed. I just purchased the car and was told "all fluids" were changed not sure if the transfer case oil falls into that or not. Also as far as CV joints is there any way to an untrained eye to see if that could be the issue? The car still makes the noises even if in neutral when rolling back out of the drive. I did notice the noise is not present when above about 10 mph. Thanks again for your help!

Jack up the front and see if there is "play" in the wheels when you roll them back and forth.
