280TE self-leveling issues

I have a 1986 280TE with the self-leveling rear suspension. The rear of the car is riding too low and the struts are thumbing and providing little support.

OEM replacements are $374 - APIECE!! Others are $290. I would like to convert to regular shocks. I read somewhere that Bilstein makes a shock that fits. Otherwise, how can I address this as least expensive as possible?

I would think twice about doing that, I am not familiar with your vehicle, but MB puts alot into their engineering and balancing. You will probably run into conversion issues and loss of performance. I would suck it up and fork out the extra $85.00 bucks a peice. You my have to put it off a week or two, but I think you will be happier in the long run.

I agree.

If you want to go cheap trade the MB for something less expensive.
