I have had poor am radio quality in my 03 w209 since new, it sounds like the speakers are slightly bown with a buzzing sound from the annoucer when they talk. The dealer replaced the AM splitter and antenna combo...no change. Suggestions please.

Thanks

Which type of radio is it? Because I think the European types are not the same as in USA.

The car is non command and the radio is the standard radio that comes in all US MBZ's. I forgot to mention that it sounds fine in FM mode.

One other question, I heard a sound coming from the drivers front side of the upper engine area that would sound something like a constant squeaking or whistleing, the noise was most noticeable when in gear at stop. I tested the car at home with the parking brake on and the car in gear, that's how I was able to get a general idea where the sound was coming from as the drivers side of the engine had the sound and the passenger side did not, it seemed to be right around the oil filter and power steering pump area but I could not tell for sure. If I reved the engine the sound did not get any louder and was quieter out of gear in nuetral or park. Could it have something to do with the power steering pump or some other pump in that area? and do they ever make noise? The car was driven for an hour when I came home and after about 30 minutes it finally quieted down.

Thanks

Bad AM Reception

Do you have tinted windows? There is a TSB that window shades can degrade radio reception. I have noticed this on two MB that I have with tinted windows. Close to a city I don't notice any problems, but if you get further away there is more static and it acts flakey. Maybe its the metal in the window tinting that causes the problem.

Is it a convertible? Because that has a different antenna system.
