The factory installed Keyless-Go option works well in my '05 S55. Recently, I needed to purchase a second ignition key, and opted (stupidly) to get a standard key (as opposed to a Keyless-Go key) through the MB dealer. This second key works perfectly, but as a standard in-the-ignition type key. So I have one working Keyless-Go key and one working standard issue key.

Is it possible to convert the standard issue key to mimic the Keyless-Go key? If so, what steps need to be taken?

I don't know if it is possible to convert it because it has to be programmed by the dealership, and I was told that the internal components of the keys are different between the two versions.

I'd wager that it's,at the very least,difficult and probably impossible.There's obviously some sort of tramsmitter circuit in the keyless that's either absent or disabled in the standard.

Just my hunch...I can't claim any special knowledge/experience here.

This is correct. The internal electronics are indeed different.
