Which oil filter for '03 S55AMG ?

Can somebody with access to MB's official parts database please look up the correct Part Number for the Oil Filter for the '03 S55AMG engine?

I thought I'd do a quick change at 3K miles instead of waiting for my first A Service at 10K miles. My local dealer sold me a filter media. I am sure the parts guy thought he gave me the right one.

However, when I took out the original one, the replacement didn't match. The replacement media is missing round plastic collars that cap both ends. These collars are molded to the ends of the media, so they don't pop off to be reused. The replacement media is also slightly longer than the OE filter.

I put the old one back in for now until I'm sure.

Oh well, at least there's fresh Mobil 1 0W40 in there. $38.00/6 quart case! Damn!

Be advised there are 3 differnet manufactures of these filters for Mercedes OEM. One of them has the black plastic caps, the other two don't. Generally you only see the ones with the black plastic ends installed at the factory. The ones you generally buy here have the flat white circular ends.

Both work fine.

Thanks for the help...

Feeling a bit more enlightened now.

Thanks for the responses!

The exact replacement can be ordered as part number:

A 000 180 23 09

It is marked as "A 112 194 04 25" on the filter end, and has the end-caps like the one I pulled out of the car.
My original dealer stocks these.
I should have started there.
I bought one and put it in today.

A 000 180 22 09 is the one without the caps.
The guy at this second dealership said that's the only version they buy and stock for service at their location. One of the Techs there said the same thing; that the OE filter has the end caps, but he replaces with the one they sold me.

It's a valid substitution according to their parts database.

Now I have clean oil and clean filter.

By the way, engine only took 8 quarts instead of 8.5. Maybe the extra half quart was pooled in my pan when I drove the front wheels onto ramps to get at the plug. (No thanks to the Topsider suggestions. I already own socket wrenches, ramps and pans.)
