Tire and Wheel Protection Policy-$1600?

Looking into purchasing tire and wheel protection on a 2012 E350 coupe with 18'' AMGs. Live in Northeast so potholes are plentiful and some kind of coverage is necessary. However, I have checked some threads on the forum and it appears that people pay no more than like 1200 for 5 years coverage for a policy such as this, regardless of model. However, I have called up three different MB dealers and they all quoted me around 1500-1600 for 48 months coverage (under the Wheel and Tire Protection Plus plan) which they claim is factory pricing and non-negotiable. Does this seem high? I just wanted to get an idea what other people have paid or if they have had any luck in negotiating the coverage downward.

I bought mine from the dealer: 5 years for $799 back in late October 2011 on my 20" AMG wheels.
It's not factory warranty - I don't even know if MB has an official T&W coverage.

It's from a 3rd party carrier that was provided as an option from the dealer.
It covers any amount of damage on the wheels from curb rash to pothole punctures.

Thanks for the response. They told me this was insurance provided through MB, not a third-party. I was also quoted insurance via All-State from another dealership which was around the same price. Not sure why it is coming in so high...

Because its a game. They can. Like most extended warranties most of the money goes to the dealer.

Does it cover curb scrapes?
Does it replace with OEM wheels only?
Does it require only Benz dealer servicing?
Does the policy NOT straighten rims?
Are tires replaced in sets or prorated?
Could be worth it.
I believe my OEM AMG rims are @$800 a piece.

2015 s550 & paid full price for options but can't even get front lic plate frames-seems like a headache to go thru every time I need a tire with $1800 "promise". Should I-- or just use discount ?
