C230 - left exhaust cam magnet bad

CEL comes on in my 2007 C230, took it to dealership, they tell me the "left exhaust cam magnet" needs to be replaced. I didn't get fixed yet, because they tell me it will cost $331.88 to fix.

Is this common for only a 5 yr old car??
And is this price just the typical over-priced dealership work?
(i'm out of warranty too)

Any kind of help would be greatly appeciated.

A faulty cam magnet is not a uncommon issue.

Labor is going to be high on that specific magnet due to the fact that it sits behind the power steering reservoir, so the price doesn't sound too far off.

There's a 9 page thread on the 203 section. The magnet costs roughly $30 from the dealer and takes 15-20 minutes to replace. It's a very simple job.

Here's the part number... A2720510177.

Edit: this issue is very common. The theory is the price on this part is so cheap because they resigned it due to a defect on the original.
