Oil Change question...

For those of you who do your own oil changes, do you use a topper and extract the oil through the dipstick or do you open the plug and let it drain?

Drain, it's always better to have the oil drain down to the pan with all the whatever in it.

oil change

I extract the oil. For very detailed directions go to slk32.com. The only think not mentioned on that web site is you will have to pump the extraction device several times.

I use a "top sider" and I'm told it extracts more than using the drain plug. That's how Mercedes does it. Mark

I get under the car and drain it. I believe this method is actually more effective than the topslider because it'll flush all the sediments and what not. I have tried the top slider though and it is actually a hassle for me because I never know when I'm done pumping out the oil and I dont know how far the line is when it's in the pan.

Well, here in IN the dealer put my car on the lift and put a drain pan on the bottom, unpluged the drain plug and let the old oil come down the old fashion way.
