Question engine serial number decoding?

Hello all,

I have a 1990 300te that has had an engine transplant. I am trying to determing what the engine I have was originally installed in and what year it is. (Those pesky smog folks). Stamped on the block are the numbers

103 981 12 047 582 E 9.2

Cast on the block are

2.5L 87

The engine is supposed to be a 3 liter gasoline engine.

I suspect it may be a European spec engine as some of the U.S. emission anti-tamper bits are not there.

So, does anyone have the magic decoder ring to look up those engine numbers?

Thanks,
keith

According to what I found, a 103981 engine came from a 126024 300SE or a 126025 300SEL. As far as year, I am not sure, sorry.

Thank you very much. According to my mechanic's book it is equipped as a US 1987 engine would be with no air pump or EGR. Hopefully someone can verify this from the number.
