tick-tick noise in 98 e430 engine (lifters?)

For those techs who don't follow the w210 forum. My 98 e430 has this tick-tick noice audible from the engine. It is mostly evident when I start the car and open the hood. Fast tick-tick sound from the middle of the engine (more or less). This sound was always there ever since I got the car. Not sure if it's supposed to be there though. Jimmydagreek was relly helpful since he had similiar problem on his 97 e420 and lifters where the cause of it. After he replaced it the noice was gone.
Could this be the same on 98 e430 engine?
I got the car last year on Starmark warranty and in my possesion I use Mobil1 0w40 oil. Not sure what was used before and wonder if this could be the cause.
The car runs fine but wonder if I should take care of it now.
Are any of the techs familiar with this problem? Is it common? Is it serious?

The 420 engines have very quiet valve trains, the newer 4.3's don't. Compare your car to another 4.3 and you'll see if yours is out of the normal range.
