Hello All,

Does anyone notice a faint humming/whinning noise coming from the rear when traveling highway speeds? The windows need to be closed and the radio off. I can hear a humming/whinnning noise when I let off on the gas and it goes away when I step on the gas. It sounds like it is coming from the differential. Do I need to concerned about this?

I just found this question. I have the same problem in my 03 E500. It is not the tires. It happens for me with two differnt kinds now. I will someone knew how to fix this.

I had a similar problem with the differential in my 2001 C240 when it was new. The differential was eventually replaced by the dealer at 38,000 miles under warranty. Now that the car has 80,000 miles, the replaced differential is making similar noise at highway speed. Since the car is now out of warranty, I just live with it .
