Adaptive Headlights Not So Adaptive

I just purchased a 2010 S550 which I love. However, there seems to be a problem with the adaptive headlights. They almost never go on high beams. I can be rolling down a dark road and it'll take a minute or two for the brights to come on. If there is any light around at all, they don't come on.

Is there a sensor that easily replaceable or is this a known issue?

Thanks.

This isn't so much about aim but about the brights coming on.
