Starting to see oil spots on driveway

Anyone have any experience with oil drips on a 190e 2.3?

The leak doesn't seem to be coming from the pan - they seen to start up top on the engine. No smoke -- yet

Any pointers would be welcomed

Oil Leaks

From my experience with high milage W-123's (240D, 300D, 300TD) oil leaks from the top of the engine tended to be valve cover gaskets. They get old and brittle and start to leak, no matter how hard you tighten the valve cover nuts (which you shouldn't be tightening much to begin with). Warm up your engine and clean it with an engine cleaner then try to see where the leaks come from.

My other experience is that if you havn't used synthetic in a high milage car and switch to it, the superior detergents in the synthetic clean any "false oil plugs" that may have been sealing old gaskets, and the usually thinner synthetic oil starts new oil leaks. Have you changed to synthetic or semi-synthetic oil recently?

Thats my 2 cents worth.

Switch to Synthetics

No synthetics in my car. I agree with your thought about synthetics tending to find a way out of an older engine. I fact, I wouldn't use a synthetic in any car that hasn't been raised on synthetics after the car reaches 45 - 50K.

I change the oil and filter every 3,000 miles and synthetics just get too expensive at that interval.

Any experience with blow by leaks of oil from valve cover vents?
