Motor Mounts/ Engine Mounts Bad

I got some work done on my car recently. And the guy says that his Mercedes mechanic says that my moror mounts or engine mounts are bad as in withered down. Something alone those lines. Basically says i need to replace them ($900). What kind of problem is this from and how will it affect my car? w209 CLK55

I'm going to take it to a dealership and have them check it out to see if they find the same issue.

bad motor and trans mounts would cause engine vibration. they wear out over time.

yeah no vibrations yet! But is this a dangerous issue?

I'd replace them when it starts vibrating

RAPE!!

Oh, sorry, that is my opinion of the price.
Send me an e-mail for the tech data required for your car to diy this.

Be sure to list year, model and need engine mount diy in the e-mail.

IMO two hours and the cost of mounts.

This diy is NOT for your engine, but the idea is the same.

Before you say "RAPE" on the price lets look at it...

These prices below are all using MSRP for the parts as well as the tax and an average labor rate at several European repair facilities including some dealers. All labor times are warranty time as well taken directly from the Mercedes-Benz labor time guide. Keep in mind most shops mark the warranty labor up by any where from 20-50%

All C209.376 use the same motor mounts and trans mount. There is no variation between model years.

Now if you were to do this yourself, of course it would be cheaper (most things you do yourself usually are). Parts.com has the motor mounts for $120.00 each and the trans mount for $34.00. Having done this job numerous times, I can say a lift makes it much easier. Also note that if you are unsure of what to take off or how high you can jack the engine without causing damage, you can get frustrated pretty quick trying to remove the mounts.

Now this is not a stab at the OP, but I would assume he took it to the shop as his skill level or his valuable time does not allow him to do this repair. So an estimate of $900.00 is not too far off. He would also have piece of mind it was done by a skilled technician. (I hope ) From a customers perspective it is always better to have a job quoted slightly high, so when they pick up the vehicle and the bill is less, you have a happy customer. If his quote did not include the trans mount (which it should) then yes, the price is a bit much. MB recommends all mounts to be replaced at the same time.

To the OP, the motor mounts should not be much to worry about, if you experience no vibration, and they have not split completely and leaked out all the oil.
