Angry Oopps - Petrol in the diesel tank

Today i accidentally put 5 gallons of super unleaded in my vito (diesel) cdi 108 van i travelled about 1000 yards and then the engine got louder and stopped. I realised what had happened, and after being towed back home i removed the fuel from the tank(via tube down the filler) i got most of it out (needle was on empty) and then filled up with deisel (65 ltr approx). after a rather rough start the engined seemed to run just as before, however, i then travelled 20 miles and i lost the top end of my revs, it wouldnt rev past 3000 rpm. I then stopped for approx 1 hour then restarted my engine, it now ran as before having bags of power and revs, i then drove another 20 and just as before i lost my power only this time it went down to 2000 revs
and there seems to be a funny sound coming from somewhere,
almost like the turbo is trying to go but the engine doesnt want to respond. after getting back home i left the vehicle for 2 hours then started it again, now at 2000 revs it hunts and at about 2200 it tinkles like the sound before, i havent tried to rev it up as
i am starting to fear the worst. The question is have i ruined the injector pump and how much is it to replace, or is it the seals or filters or is it the engine management system. Can anybody help!

You might have to run it out, or have the gas tank cleaned out. It should not cause any permanent damage, now if you had put diesel in a petrol motor, LOOK OUT.

I am surprised it is running at all. The problem you describing is most likely do to the fact that the engine is sucking down diesel and then it will suck down an bit if petrol and then give out, Keep topping it off with diesel the more you dilute the petrol the sooner the problem will go away.

Re:Petrol in the diesel---- More info---- This morning it is running sweet as a nut again, I have taken out some of the load i was carrying, and i have travelled about 20
miles taking things really gently, the engine still seems fine, there are no rattles or knocks and it has all of its power, i have used about quarter of a tank now, when i get down to half i will fill again, the only thing i noticed is it warmed up on the temperature gauge in only 5 mins it usually takes about 15......... You could be lucky because you didn't go far on the gasoline. Diesel fuel acts as a lubricant throughout the whole fuel injection system, which gasoline definitely does not. My nephew did the same thing once to a Golf, but went farther and had to replace the pump and injectors.
