Expansion Valve Replacement?
I'm replacing the compressor and receiver/dryer on my 380sl, and was wondering whether it's really necessary to replace the expansion valve, too, as I haven't had one of those catastrophic failures that contaminates the system.
Obviously, I'd rather not replace the valve if the odds are good that it's OK, since it looks like a harder job than replacing the compressor.
Thanks in advance for the advice.

It would be better to replace the tx valve at the same time, odd are it's still the older valve designed for R12, the new one would be better suited to R134a which should give you better perforamce. TX valves do wear out over time so If you're going to the trouble may as well do a compleate job.

Thanx for the advice. It doesn't seem like too many people know much about it.
Anyway, I have the manual, which says you have to get at it through the instrument panel opening, and the left foot-well. But it looks hard to get at. So, any tips would be appreciated.
