HI.I have 2007 E550 4matic,sport package with 70000 miles on.My wife drive to work and check engine light show up.She take that car to our mechanic and he said that code is camshaft worn gear.(or something like that)He said thats is common problem with this models with 272 and 273 engine model and people take MB to court for that.My car have no warranty,so i ask how much to fix that problem.He said he charge 3500 dollars(he work over 15 years in MB in Germany)and dealer charge around 6000 dollars plus.He also give me advice to call MBUSA and try split the cost with them (goodwill).I call MBUSA today and they want me go to MB dealer for diagnostic and after they have a paper from certified MB dealer we can maybe talk whats next(MAYBE).I read some story about how people pay just 20,40,50 percent of total cost.Problem is my wife let my mechanic reset that light and he said next time that light show up you better fix that or you can make more damage.MB dealer said that check engine light must be on for diagnostic.Anybody have some experience with this problem?Thank you

Codes 1200 and 1208 mean that the balance shaft in the engine needs to be replaced. basically they need to take your engine out tear it apart in order to replace the shaft. Talk to the service manager they should goodwill just about the whole job. MB is trying to avoid a class action lawsuit with this one.

 

if he reset the light. then it should only take a couple of short driving trips to set it off again. then drive to the dealer. like stated above. he is correct. im a tech at an mb dealer and I actually just did one a couple of weeks ago. the dealer should goodwill it. at least my dealer always does.

Last week i have few phone calls from MBUSA about how hard they work on my case and other sweet talk and finaly they call me yesterday and they decide to not help me.When I ask why they said nothing.When i ask how is possible they install defected part in mercedes and NO RECALL they said nothing.So if you dont buy your benz in certified mercedes dealer and you dont service your benz in benz dealer you nothing for Mercedes.They give me estimate for 6000 dollars for repair for car what was cost almost 60 000 dollars(brand new)and after 70000 miles need other 6000 for repair V8 5.5 liter engine what should run forever.I call my body shop and i want to make appoitnment, but two days latter i change my mind.THEY DONT CARE ....I DONT CARE EITHER!!!!

 

Im back with my story.I try contact MBUSA one more time via email and i ask one more time for help with my gear shaft problem.After 5 days no answer.I call my mechanic and i make appointment for next tuesday for gear shift repair,plus new rotors and brakes pads.Total price 4500 dollars.Next couple days i let this problem go out of my head,but after i receive some mail to my post box from MB dealer(same dealer who make diagnostic)how they want to fix my car and how they appreciate do bussines with me and other bs i said that's enough.One day in the morning i ask my wife if that check engine light was on when she drive from work.She said no.I wake up 8am in the morning and start our E550 and after 2 minutes driving that light come back again.I sit in my car and i was thinking what to do to make that light disapear.I try pushing my start button on and of and after couple minutes that light disapear.I drive slowely to MB dealer(but diferent one,not where they find my car need 6 thousand dollars repair) where i ask for manager.Some guy show up with question how they can help me.I said I have 2007 E550 and i want trade in for 2010 E350 sport,fully loaded with all options possible.Thay show me few cars,but one missing trunk spoiler,other have no led fog lights etc,I said Im looking for P2 package,sport package,black and black 4 matic.They said its very rare ,but they make few phone calls and they find one car in other MB location.They want me wait few minutes and they want to see my car and give me trade in price.When some guy take my car for drive test and other guy take 15 second look around they offer me decent money(normaly i never say yes to offer like that,but i count their offer plus 4500 dollars what i must pay for repair) and i find out that offer is good deal for me.I take my car and i drive to other MB location to check that 2010 E350 sport package,P2 package.After i see that car i was fall in love.Absolutely beautiful.Now i have mercedes with warranty till 2017 or 135 thousand miles and Im happy.Sorry for my terible english i hope you understand.Roman
