2003 C320 Sport
Unhappy Im a 1st time Mercedes owner and my 2003 C320 sport needs alot of work

Please help. For starters I bought this car knowing it needed work... but geez! this is piling up fast. Let a friend drive it for 10 minutes and now my front left section of my suspension is screwed.

I'm clueless when it comes to a Benz. hoping you all can help. my issues are.........

1. Front left wheel seems to bounce and make a banging/knocking noise when i brake. any Ideas? (bushing, control arm, broken caliper bolt, ruined damper...) HHHEEEELLLLPPPP!!!!! ASAP!!!

2. Milky Oil.... suggestions??? there is the scent of exhaust fumes and gasoline coming from the motor when i undo the oil cap.

3. Correct me if i am wrong. there is a tapping noise on the right side, but its not the lifter. its coming from a small part i think is called the fuel purge. Any ideas how much a new one costs?

4. Oil residue surrounding a head cover bolt near the middle right cylinder. What should I do about it? anything?

5. Where can I find a new, cheap headlight lense?

6. What is causing the 10+ second clicking noise behind my dash at start-up?

7. Passenger vents wont switch to windshield or floor. it only blows through the dash vents.

8. How hard is it to replace the rear fog lamp?

9. Washer fluid takes a couple seconds and a couple pushes of the button to start working correctly. Is it the squirter motor or something else????

If it was mine , i would take it to the dealership or mercedes specialized shop , pay $100 for a complete report and a cost estimate , and decline repairs of any item that you can do yourself. for your $100 you will have a complete report . Good luck .

While my expertise is with the E class platform, Ill try to point you in the right direction.

1. It sounds like your front left wheel needs a shock and or spring. I would recommend taking the tire off and seeing if theres any oil like residue on the lower control arm or the surrounding area. That would be the worst case scenario. It could be something as simple as a damaged rotor as well.

2. The milky oil means that theres moisture in the oil. I would recommend doing an oil change, and then driving for more than an hour to see if it returns. Also, check the coolant. If that is milky as well, then you have a blown head gasket.

3. The tapping noise from the fuel purge valve is normal on the E classes, im pretty sure it is on the C classes as well, but im sure you can find something on the forums.

4.For the oil around the head cover bolt you can change the valve cover gasket, but I think thats the least of your worries right now. I would clean the surrounding area, and then check it periodically to see how bad the leak actually is.

5. You could check the classifieds on the forum and see if anyone has any for sale, or you could check eBay or Amazon. you can probably get two new housings for under 250.

6. Kinda at a loss on the clicking noise you mentioned here. Sounds kinda like the purge valve again, but im not sure.

7. Sounds like you HVAC unit might be defective, but im not sure how to diagnose them on a C class.

8. The rear fog lamp should just be a regular bulb. Not hard to replace at all. Normally you just remove a socket and install a new bulb.

9. Sounds like your washer fluid motor is sucking in air somewhere. I would check all the lines and make sure there are no leaks before buying a new one.
