Question ML 320: Minimun Front Rotor Thickness?

What is the minimun rotor thickness for the front rotors of a 99 ML 320? I thought I saw a 23mm on the rotor but I'm not sure.

My rotors are 23.8mm. I'm on my second set of brake pads. Vehicle has 80K miles on it. I got 49K miles out of first set of pads and have 6mm of material left on the current pads which have about 30K miles on them.

I'm thinking I need to put new rotors on the new time I renew the pads.

Also is there a need to repack the front wheel bearings at this time? When I renew the pads again? I'm used to the older MB when I would repack or change the front wheel bearings at around 60K miles.

thanks, ron

Hi Ron - I believe that the 23mm on your rotor is the minimum thickness. On my '99 E320, I replaced the pads at about 44Kmiles. I had the stock rotors machined, they well above the minimum, but soon after, only a few hundred miles, the rotors did not run true. I would invest in new rotors in your case, since you already changed pads once.

As for the bearings, it would not hurt to repack now. The bearing dust cap is very hard to remove, make sure you get a good removal tool.

So with the bearings being sealed does that mean no maintanence is to be performed?

If so when do they need to be replaced?
