Hey how's it going I'm new to the site and took a quick glance to find info and I still need help. My girlfriend has a 2002 c240 the other day after driving all day she shut the car off and it would crank and not start. I had it towed to my house where it started so I couldn't diagnose but everything i read said crank sensor so I replaced it. Well after driving for a couple of days it happened again and after sitting it will start again can anyone help please

Answer

My best guess would be a failing SAM (Signal Acquisition Module).
This is a common failure module, that can cause a wide variety of issues.
Your car has two:
* The first has been superseded seven times, and the other unit only once
* The second SAM was superseded only once.

Here are some other possible answers:

The camshaft position sensor has been superseded three times.

The engine control Module has been superseded five times.

The ignition coils have been superseded once.

If it has been persistently driven with the fuel tank between 1/4 and empty, the fuel pump may be damaged (fuel actually is the pump lubricant/coolant).

The catalytic converters are failing (plugged up).
