CLK 350
Mfg Defect out of Warranty

The soft top on my 2009 CLK 350 has come unglued at the seam. The top is otherwise in mint condition, as is the rest of the car (24k miles). The warranty expired in Dec 2012. I purchased the car in Mar 2013 and in Apr 2013 after putting the top up, I noticed the seam came apart. An auto upholstery specialist determined the cause to be that the canvas was mounted to tight (ie manufacturer defect).

Has anyone had experience dealing with Mercedes Benz on an out of warranty defect? Because I am not the original owner, and did not buy pre-certified from MB, they will not assist in any way.

I cannot believe MB will not stand behind their brand simply because I did not buy the car from them. This is a sham!

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

your out of warranty, plain and simple!!! the canvas is mounted tight from the factory, if it wasn't, it would sag and look stupid. overtime, the movement of the top, the seems may come apart, that's not a defect, that's normal operation. just like a tee shirt, the more times you put it on and then take it off, it will eventually tear.
