new 95 e420

hey guys

how's it going. I need some advice if possible, but I am not sure if I am even in the right part of this web sight? Just picked up a 95 e420 excellent deal got it for only $800. and it's in real good shape.

the guy I bought it from said the car was really starting to starve for power and he took the cats off and just put pipe in place of them and the power issue was resolved. will running no cats cause any damage? or will it be ok other than not emissions legal?

the car also has some hesitation when you first start to step on the gas then it starts get its power and takes off good. Kind of feels like an old sb chevy with a plug wire burning off the header? Any suggestions on what's the problem there, and a possible fix?

he told me the car has never had new plug wires since he owned it so rite off I will be replacing the, plugs, wires, filters ect. I mam a disabled iron worker due to a broken back so unfortunately money is tight, will I be ok driving the car with no cats for a while or can I get away with just putting a couple small and inexpensive after market cats on it and be ok?

also the engine light is of course on and my obd-2 type scanner will not hook up to the round type plug on this car is there a way I can jump some pins and get a code reading some how?

Well everyone any help and advice you can give me will be a big help and very much appreciated as I said I am not even sure that I am in the rite part of this sight to be asking for help with problems? but I figured that I would give it a try and see if I can get so e valuable advice? Thank you all I appreciate it. I hope I can help the next guy out that needs some advice I can provide?

Answer

As long as the O2 sensors are still in the system, it will be OK other than not emissions legal..

Check Ebay for the Mercedes OBDII scan adapter.

Please post any codes you find.

I have ordered the 0bd II scanner adapter you suggested. Are the o2 sensors the same part # for both the front and the back. I have two new bosch o2 sensors I picked up and didn't need, they were for an 01 impala four wire sensors will they be ok to use in the e420? thanks for your help
