Hey guys,
here's the deal. Lateley, while driving my car, usually when hitting a bump, my ASR and ABS light will light up, and not go off till I turn off the car. Then when I restart, its not there. Any body have experience(s) like this?????

kennygss,
I had the same thing go down about month and a half ago. The ABS, ESP and ASR malfunction lights would go off for no apparent reason. I called the service tech at the dealer and they said that that occurs when one or more of the wheels has either slipped or been jarred enough that a sensor would go off monitoring wheel engagement. I turned the car off and it went away. Two weeks later the same thing this time again for no apparent reason. I was driving on a good road, no bumps, potholes, etc. Again, I turned the car off and it went away. Suffice it to say that it has not happened again since then. If it does, the car is going in to get whatever senor is bad, replaced. It is soooooooo annoying!!

This happened to my 96 E320 about two months ago. The warning lights now come on every time I drive. I was told that my ABS and ASR are not affected, but it is just an annoyance. I'm waiting until I get my 90K service to get it fixed.

I had something similar to that ASR, ESP, ABS situation. The lights would not go off at all.
Called 1-800 FOR MERCEDES, talked to service rep. He told me what to do.
(don't laugh, as it really worked) Make sure the steering wheel was centered. Start the engine. turn the wheel all the way to the left. Turn it all the way to the right. Then center the wheel. shut off the car.
After that the lights stayed off, and haven't been on since in 6K miles of driving. Go figure, as I can't.:p

My ABS/ESP/BAS lights came on only sometimes, now everytime I drive. I was going to have it fixed when I took it into my non-dealer MB specialist in central Virginia, yet he said he could not find the problem on his scanner & said I'd have to go to the dealership. I've heard all sorts of things from the steering wheel fix (just above...which I will try after I post this) to a new ABS/BAS brain. I want to try and take care of without involving the dealership if at all possible. Suggestions always welcome... but what I really want to know is...
Does anyone reccomend a non-dealer MB specialist in the Washington DC/NOVA area?

There are 2 common problems that can cause ABS/ASR lights to come on.
First, the brakelight switch. There is a switch above the brake pedal that can fail. If your warning light stays on all the time, a good way to test this is to keep you foot on the brake when you start up the car. If the cluster is normal until you lift your foot off the brake, then it could be the switch. If you need to replace this switch check out this thread. ABS/ASR fix
Second, the abs sensors are magnetic. The sensors have a habit of picking up metal filings on the tip of the sensors. The sensors can be removed and cleaned. To clean, remove the sensor from each wheel. The spray the sensor end vigorously with Brake Cleaner, then wipe off with a rag, taking care to make sure the metal filings are removed from the tip. Re-install the sensor. Before this site crashed, there were threads explaining how to remove and reinstall the abs sensor tips.
These repairs are easy to perform and are the two most common ABS/ASR problems on the e-classe. You should always try these repairs before replacing the ABS brain
Hopefully this will fix your problem.
