2005 CL 500
Swapping out key shells ??
I am hoping someone can give me a firm answer as I keep getting different ones. I just bought a 2005 CL 500 which has the old black style key. Can I buy one of the new style key shells that has the nice chrome sides etc and put the guts of my key in it ? Half of the ebay adds I see say compatible and the other half say not for what looks to be the same key.
Can some confirm if they have done this successfully ?

If you are talking about the older black key with the slightly odd shape, then no, it is not a straight swap. Your best option would be to go to a dealership and order a new key since they will then issue you the very latest design with the independent hard buttons.

hugo is correct, if you have the old style key the guts are totally different and not interchangeable
