Anyone modify the Stock Manifold on a CLK55?

I just removed my intake manifold from my CLK55. We are going to remove the vacuum accuated butterfly's and cap the vacuum line.

We gained 40hp on a supercharged 4.6 4v mustang doing this. We are hoping for similiar results with the 55.

Has anyone modified the stock intake or made a custom intake for this car?

It seems that the stock runners are very restrictive and are designed for fuel economy, not HP.

Thanks Mark.

After further review, it looks like the entire bottom runners can be removed, leaving the shorter upper runners.

It is now basically a big plenum with short runners.

I put in a call to Vadim

Please let us know what you find to work best.

Also when you modified the Mustang what did the torque curve and resulting Hp curve look like? Did you end up with more average Hp over a range of say 3000-6000 rpm, or did the car end up losing a lot of Hp in the 2000-3500 rpm range?

Thanks,

Jeff

I am supercharging this car with a C2 Procharger at 6lbs of boost. So I am not sure if the results I get will be helpful for NA cars.

Vadim suggested putting the 3:07 rear in the car. I may do this next weekend to help the car out with the loss of torque.

I will post my results in a couple of weeks.

sajecw,

Did you remove the lower manifold runners? If you did how did you do it. I have looked at doing that but they seem like they are fixed into place with some silicon stuff.

Were you able to remove the runners without destroying them?

Be careful. I soaked the manifold in acetone and brake cleaner first to loosed the glue.

The entire bottom assembly comes out.

It feels like you are going to crack the manifold.

Just powdercoated the manifold and it looks great.

Did you use any heat to help remove the runners?

Watching that Magnesium burn would be a pretty *****in site.

No heat at all.Just contant pressure in mulitple runners. We used wooden handles from mallets.
