2006 c280 windshield wipers will not work correctly

Hi I have a 2006 c280 and the windshield wipers will not return back to home position and now they'll only work if you press the washer on the combination switch. I'm I just lucky or do I need the switch and the windshield motor transmission. Just spent $1018 last week to get the shifter replace.
