Electrical Contacts in Gasoline

Experts! I'm beginning to gather everything needed to change my Fuel Pump and Sending Unit. And I noticed that the electrical contacts for the pump are exposed, submersed in gasoline inside the tank when it's full, exposed in gasoline vapors when the tank is low.
I don't understand how that's NOT a spark hazard.
Are gasoline & vapors not flammable around 12 volt sparks?
When I saw this, my caution meter went off the chart!
Hopefully some expert explanation(s) will calm my nerves.
Much Thanks!

Thats how almost all cars are made ... wires and pins submerged in gasoline .... just make sure they are connected well .... it seems its a design issue . Ive seen burnt wires and burnt pumps inside fuel tanks that did not cause any fires or explosions ... my best explanation would bebthat there is no air in the tank ... to cause a fire you need oxygene gas and a spark . If one of these is missing then it just wont happen .... fuel vapors without oxygene will not blow up or fire up .... just dont worry about it

OK - thanks. The last thing I want to do is blow me & my car up. Just trying to be smart about it. I appreciate the advise.
