C55 license plate light, 1 out?

My license plate light is out on the left side but the right side is fine. I swapped bulbs to no avail so checked for voltage there...none! Are the wires run together to both bulbs and if so, how does the chassis tell me the left one is out? Do I need to take it to a 'stealer' and have the BCM rebooted or have a scan made?
Funny thing is I don't need to be told if the right or the left is out as it is not a critical light to have. Can I take the trunk liner down and daisy wire both bulbs together and drive on? May it screw up the computer and not allow the engine to run
Any help or ideas gladly accepted......

Thank you.
