Been doing it to my wife for a couple of days. Searched the forums, many references to crank position sensor with same symptoms. O'Reilly AP code reader also confirmed CPS fault. Replaced with a new one in about 10 minutes. Feeling really proud of myself.
Thought it was fine for the first half hour, then it did it again. Just dies randomly. WOT. Idling. Whenever. Usually fires back up (although wife experienced no start until it cooled down). Looking for new ideas.

If you replaced the crankshaft position sensor, you must go to the Mercedes dealer and have the sensor programmed. Otherwise, you will experience the exact symptoms you describe.
