Alarm for head light

My '84 300TD doesn't have an alarm that warns me if I leave the lights on. Being the creature of habit that I am, I keep leaving the lights on and running the battery down. This is getting tiresome. I understand that there should be an alarm system on there somewhere. Any suggestions?

You can install an aftermarket lights on alarm sold by various companies such as JC Whitney.

Here's the link:

All three of my W123 had very irritating headlignt-on alarms. Possibly the buzzer behind the dash is not working. If you take out the kick panel on the drivers side, there is a silver aluminum box with a cabel coming to it near where the emergency brake attaches to the car under the dash. This box is the "Seat Belt Warning Relay" and makes the buzzing noise in my car when I have my headlights on without the key in the ignition. It is PN# 001 545 52 32 and the online MB parts places charge about $66. Double check with others before running out to buy it. Maby just pulling off the contacts, or tapping it will get it to work for you.

When I figure out how to attach a pix larger than 1byte I will.

Talking Many Thanks

Thanks a lot for the assistane ,sph17. I did manage to find the culpret. With a bit banging I managed to solicit a very weak tone for the head lignts and once for the ingition, nothing for the seat belt. Plugging and unplugging seemed to be of no assistance. I am ording a new device.

Petmerteck, I considered the after market buzzer from JC Whitney, but I am one of those guys that would probably get it all wired wrong and not be able to run the car! I tend to be better off with "plug and play"

Appreciate the help guys.

Only 140K miles?

Just broken in at 140K miles. Sold my 84 300TD at 225K. Junked my 83 240K at 215K (rear axel support rusted through) and my 84 300D is still going strong at 225K. Change the oil & filter religiously every 5K miles, & ATF and filter every 30K and these W123s go forever.

Good Luck!
