'85 500 SEC AMG worth $9K?
I have an opportunity to buy a 1985 500SEC AMG for $9K. It has 10K on rebuilt, body is in excellent condition, interior is like new. I have never owned a MB and do not know if this model is a good one or not. Is there anything I should know before I commit???
Thanks for your two cents!

Thanks Ski Guy:
Here are a couple of additional facts:
* the engine is rebuilt
* the car was built with AMG (has rear emblem)
* all leather, power everything - beautiful
Thanks for your help!

Hi SG:
. . . well, the exterior of the car isn't leather, (and although I'm "just a girl" and really don't know TOO much about cars, I'm quite sure there's not a whole lot of leather in the engine compartment!)
I have a 4x4 already, so on those days of inclement weather, that's the vehicle of choice. The MB I'm considering is two toned exterior, blue and grey. The interior is grey. By the way, is the term 'Stage 3 AMG' meaningful or just a way to say 'nice tires?'
Soooooo, what do you think?
Many thanks . . .

It is worth the $9K if in good shape as you say.
Could you get it by the MB dealer in the area for a look see before you buy it?
Fact is where ever he or she had it serviced would know all about those small details thsat may haunt the littel beast.
These are great cars and go forever, you will not be disappointed. However they have littel quirks that may surface from time to time. (mono valves, vacume pump for locking mechnisms and stuff) A good mechanic would be able to tell you. If this has been MB serviced it has a rap sheet and they can access it for you. THere is a diagnostic port located under the hood, drivers side wheel, behind the headlight. They plug into that and the car can tell them what is going on.
Enjoy the car the ride is tremendous. ( that is why Patrick Swazey had one in the movie "Roadhouse", this is a tough machine!)
