HELP! ML 350 "stalls" randomly when stopped/yield

HELP! My 2011 ML 350 has "stalled" a total of 8 times over the past 2 months. It has happened while sitting at stop lights and while approaching/accelerating at yield/stop sign (so at very low speeds). The car will shut off, the steering locks, and it goes into neutral. I pull over, put it into park, turn the key and it starts up again with no problem.

I have had the vehicle at 2 separate MB service centers and no one can give me an answer, and they are not able to replicate the problem.

I have read a couple of threads on this issue, but never really was able to read a solution to the problem. One service center thought it might have something to do with the remote start and wanted to unhook it.

As of today, I see myself getting rid of the car. I love it, but its not worth getting killed.

Anyone have any answers???

Thanks!

any fault codes? There is an LI out there about doing a hard reset (un-connecting and reconnecting) the ME and throttle pedal because of a protective substance the manufacture has put on the pins which can cause a bad connection. Resetting the connectors basically wipes the pins and corrects the connection. I've personally seen a few ML's come in with weird complaints and this has been a good remedy. But, the again, there is usually fault codes involved.

hello, i have a 2001 ML320 that does the same thing...it does have a check engine code of P0115 on it. does that have anything to do with it stalling?

Probably not. (But I've seen stranger things) P0115 is a coolant temp issue. 95% of the time that's the three disk thermostat in the stuck open position.

MB
This sounds like a crankshaft position sensor problem. Cheap to replace yourself but runs into hundreds if performed by the dealership.

Thanks for the response, I appreciate it. No fault codes, which is why this process is so difficult.

The MB dealer was never able to find the problem. So I told them to remove the remote start. It has not stalled in the few months that I have had it. It only "shut off/stalled" in the extreme cold months of the winter (I live in Chicago). Anyone think that the extreme cold weather could be a contributing factor?

The car is due for service soon, so I will bring up the hard reset and see what their thoughts are. Thanks again.
