2010 E550 35k Engine Whine at start up
There is a lot of talk about this on the forum but I have yet to get to a post that determines exactly what it is I am hearing...
When cold starting, I get a whine that sounds like a turbine spooling up for about 30 seconds. Once at operating temps this sound is not heard at start up.
Trans pump?, Oil Pump? Suspension / Power Steering pump?
has anyone fully determined what this is and if it's a problem?

i believe this is normal. the secondary air pump, smog pump only runs when engine is cold for about 30 seconds to a minute.
