Pilot bushing on 722.5 box
Hi all, my brother in law (who is a very experienced in dependant mechanic) had arranged to replacing the ATF, filter etc on the above box which is in my wifes 54 plate W203 Sports Coupe as well the pivot bush because it was leaking so the part was purchased but when it came to removing the bush he was unable to do so because the bolt seems to be turning in the same place ( he has replaced 2 in the past without any issues) so now we are stuck....has anyone else had this problem and if so how was it resolved ? I'm assuming a part needs to be purchased and fitted..is this part expensive and how much work is involved in fitting it ? Is it a specialised job and if so can anyone recommend a garage that could do it with an approximate price (I'm in North Wales).
Any help and/or advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

sounds like the pressed-in brass "nut" is spinning in the plastic of the conductor plate. You'll probably have to replace the conductor plate to repair it correctly. Kind of a messy job, but you should be able to do it in a few hours. Keep everything clean when it's out. I recommend buying a few cans of brake parts cleaner to clean the valve body while it's out. Just go by the torque specs on the bolts for the solenoids and the valve body to the trans. Worst part will be trying to break the plastic off the connector so you can get the valve body out since it won't unbolt.

Because I've never used Brake Cleaner to clean auto trans parts I'd be a little nervous. After 10 years working on auto trans I do know that Varsol will work as a cleaner with no adverse effects. Just my $.02
