Hey MBtech, glad to have u back, question about the ML tranny.
I just took my ML320 to my local dealer because the transmission would thud on the 1st to 2nd gear upshift. They replaced the TCM about a year ago for the same reason, cured it then it came back. They then reset the TCM 6 months later, then it came back. Now they rebuilt it, but I remember hearing the mercedes transmissions are not supposed to be rebuilt and that mercedes would rather have them replace the whole unit. Here is what they did.

it shifts better now, but I am not sure how long this fix will last. I would greatly appreciate your opinion on this Dave. Thank you.

I'm sorry, but I really can't tell what they did by just looking at the parts list. My best guess would be they replaced a band or a clutch assembly. Mercedes transmissions can be rebuilt just like any other trans out there, it's just more cost-effective to replace the whole unit. I would have replaced the whole unit, but they chose to disassemble it. Either way is acceptable, although the dealer probably didn't make as much money by disassembling it.
