Severe drive shaft vibration, car inoperative.

"2000" ML320 127000 miles. Sudden failure of Drive train. ALL WHEEL DRIVE, when on lift, horrendous drive shaft vibration. in "drive" Left rear wheel stationary, right rear wheel spins . Idling in neutral, left rear wheel locked. right rear wheel spins freely. Question: cv issue or drive shaft, or transmission issue. Am handy but horribly weak on knowledge. Next thought, book value $2900, repair costs?

Sounds like e-brake came apart and has rotor locked. You didn't say if LR spins at all.

Thank you for replying. Wife observed limited motion in LR in Drive while on lift (jack stands) Noise violent. Idling on Jackstands, LR locked. Other rear wheel spins freely, no bearing, or CV noise. Car can drive noise free under 10 mph. Then violent shaking, not unlike a flat tire. Car is needed for daily use, hesitate to flatbed her over to MB not knowing the problem. Repairs approaching $1800, I would move on to another pre owned MB.

I've never seen a Rearend lock one wheel, unless the wheel bearing or diff. Side bearing is tight, try removing the wheel. Maybe caliper is stuck.

Still up on a 4 ton floor jack, front wheels chocked will see tomorrow. Again, handy with tools, weak on knowledge. Thanks.
