2003 e320
cluster swap

I've got a bad instrument cluster, the circuit board is blown according to my independent mechanic, as well as the dealer. So i'm going to buy a 'used' cluster. I contacted someone with a 2000 e320 cluster, but he said that my 97 e420 takes a different cluster. Will the cluster from a 97 e320 work?
Any help is appreciated.

W210 prior to MY'00 (1999 or older) should work fine.... 2000+ W210 has different instrument cluster (3 separate LCD displays) and requires to be connected to multi-function steering wheel.

I believe instrument cluster 1999 or older W210 should be a lot cheaper (I heard you could get around $100-$200 used). Mine (MY'01 E55) got replaced recently (bad LCD for clock) and had to pay $1200 ($900+ new parts plus $200+ labor).

Thanks kimber45..... you made me feel even worse... 'coz I just passed my warranty and the damn LCD started to die at approx. 52K...... if I were prejudice, it seemed there was a time bomb in my car.

If you replace the cluster make sure that the odometer isn't messed with. If the odometer isn't correct your car could become a TMU car (true mileage unknown)....not good if you want to resell the car. Check with the dealer regarding this....ask their suggestions.

You can install a +00 Instruemnt cluster in your older E class and get the multifunction steering wheel as well. This is a nice mod on older e classes. STeve has done several in the past.
