2013 S 550 Oil Filter Location

I posted this a couple of day ago in the W-221 Forum with no reply yet...

After one $200 + MB dealer oil change on our 2013 S 550, I’m contemplating doing the next oil service myself via the oil extraction method.

All of the YouTube Mercedes oil change videos show the oil filters accessible from the top side of the engine.

I popped the center engine cover off of our 550 today and could not find the oil filter housing.

I can find a S 500 oil change video but none for the twin turbo S 550.

Am I just missing it, is it under some other part of the engine cover, or is the oil filter mounted on the bottom side of the motor which would mean getting under the car and removing the panels?

I will be grateful for any guidance

OK, I’m a moron. I decided to take one more look just to see if I could get a glimpse of an oil filter housing on our S 550. Even before I removed the center engine cover I saw it.

The oil filter for a twin Turbo S 550 is on the driver’s side front of the engine and is exposed without having to take off any cover plates. To remove the filter however, it looks like the driver’s side cover ahead of the air filter will need to be snapped off. (I popped it off and back on with no issue.)

This is great news as an oil change via the extraction method should be a breeze.

With the oil dip stick and filter at the front of the engine, and no need to get under the car, what could go wrong? I know, sounds like famous last words…

Now I just need to decide which extractor I want to purchase. (I’m leaning toward the 6.25 gallon compressed air model at Harbor Freight for about $150, but there are other cheaper alternatives.)
