power seat motor question

I recently acquired nice set of power seats from a late 90's E300 and want to use them in a totally different kind of car.
My problem is that I don't know how the motors work - I cant get them to move.
I only have one of the seat modules that are on the bottom of the seat.
There is one one heavier wire and 3 smaller wires in the plugs of the motors.
Should they move if I just put 12v on the proper combination of these, or do they work like stepper motors and require that seat module to operate?

Thanks for any input.

They are reverse polarity motors that are controlled via the seat control module---you are better off offering the seats on e-bay to another unsuspecting sap and just cry ignorance or communicate in Yiddish when asked any technical questions!!----you will have them sold in a week!!
