1999 c230 kompressor, air compressor bearing and belt help!

Im new to posting in the forum, so I apologise if this is bad form!

I need a little bit of help! I have a 1999 Mercedes c230 kompressor.

I started having trouble with it lately; the bearing for the air compressor has stopped turning, so the belt is rubbing against the stopped compressor causing it to smoke and shred the belt.

I don't care about having air conditioning, and I was wondering to get my car in good work in order again, can I just get a different belt and bypass the compressor entirely? it doesn't seem to be a major part of the serpentine belt, but I'm no mechanic. I've heard of a guy on here doing that with a different model but does anybody know if that's possible with the '99 c230 kompressor?
