Unhappy Climat Control Malfunction

My first time on the road with the 99 SL500 and I am experiencing climate control issues. I set it on 72 degrees and Auto with outside temperature about 80. It seems to work fine for a while then the fan just quits even though the display shows it runnung at about 3/4 speed. The dash vents are very cold but no or little air flow. If I shut the climate control off for a while and then back on it works for a while (almost seems to over cool) and shuts down again. Manual control of the fan will not work when it shuts dows. Any clue? It almost seems like it is freezing up?
Your thoughts would be appreciated.

It sounds like the blower voltage regulator is going bad.

Wow, thanks for the prompt reply. Is this an expensive fix? Like an entire module? I pray not. But it will be so nice to have the comfort there on long trips.

I don't know the cost of a blower regulator for your car, but I know on the W210 and W140, they aren't cheap.

The malfunction turned out to be the evaporator temperature sensor on the automatic a/c system. And the good news is that the cost was under $200. Thanks for your input. I think this forum is great!
